History of coconut

Coconut in the term of science is called Cocos nucifera. The Spanish people used to call It coca that is monkey face. The reason they call it coca was the face of the coconut that looked exactly like a face of a monkey the hairy skin and the nutty face. The word nucifera means nut bearing.

Coconut has severed the world from the last many decades. People have taken high benefits from this fruit. It gives the same nutrition as we get from fruits, meat, oil and milk. Coconut has been linked with the history of many nations. Many countries depend on coconut for their economy and food.

The plants history has been under discussion. Many countries have been declared as the origin of this fruit. These include Malaysia, South America, India and some others. But the most aged fossil has been found in India and Australia. They are almost thirty seven to fifty five million years’ oil. Coconut gives high nutritious value they are very rich in minerals, fibers and vitamins. Coconut is said to be a functional food as it gives a lot of health benefits that are more than its nutritious value.

When coconut was first discovered, people used to love the water. It is also reported that when the travelers of that time used to travel in different countries, they used to take the coconuts of small sizes with them. The larger one if they could have carried. They used to drink the water and keep the slices of coconuts as a snack and eat them during their travel. The water used to give them refreshment and energy so that they can travel easily. And the best part about coconut was that it was cold inside anyway. Even if they used to travel in hot areas the coconut water was always cold and refreshing.

Breaking coconut was not easy. This was considered as a blessing as well as difficult process. Difficult of course because it was tough to break it and they used to carry such stuff to beak it. But blessing because they had to travel miles and take care of their luggage as well. So coconut was hard and lasted for a long time. it was easy to manage carrying it.
